Issue 1 of the Elesti historical fantasy adventure series. The mysterious goddess Elesti recruits a wonderful little girl from Athens, Avra, and a fearless boy from Sparta, Leon, to form an incredible team that aims to change the face of humanity.
The Myth of Elesti is the first, introductory issue of the Elesti series of historical fantasy adventures for children. It tells the story of Elesti's damnation by the twelve gods of Olympus into eternal darkness, and how our heroes – Avra, Leon, Mentor and Elesti – came to be together. A first hint of the general approach of the series is a "soft" first reference into the principle "all life matters."
The story
In Greece of 400 BC. on the sacred mount of Epidavros, in a parallel dimension hidden from mortals and gods alike, Elesti, a mysterious, unknown deity casts the spell that will allow her to make contact, for the first time ever, with the world of humanity.
Soon enough, across the gulf, on the outskirts of Athens, Avra, a seven-year-old girl, starts chasing a pink, lamb-shaped cloud leading her to a mysterious purple mountain that suddenly emerged out of nowhere. At the same moment Leon, an eight-year-old boy from Sparta, goes running after a chicken which leads him right onto one of the seven bridges of an enormous rainbow.
When the three of them inevitably come together at the point where their wildly different worlds meet, an unusual pact is formed between goddess and children, and a string of incredible adventures across space and time unwinds.
The Elesti book series is a high-quality publication, especially rich in both literary as well as artistic content, conceived, designed and produced to grow with children starting between the ages of 5 and 9, exposing them to carefully selected, age-appropriate ideas and ideals, but also introducing and decoding fundamental paradoxes, dilemmas and pitfalls inherent in the human condition.
"The Myth of Elesti" is available in English and Greek from Public bookstores in Greece and through our online store.
The story was written by Leonidas Kossis with contributions by Konstantinos Nanopoulos. Illustrations are by Anastassia Babekou under the artistic direction of Lefteris Faros. The creators of the Elesti series of historical fantasy adventures are Leonidas Kossis and Konstantinos Nanopoulos.
